100 a ripe old age (of experience)

When things turn 100 in life it’s a pretty big milestone, to be fair it is a really long time! Making it to this ripe old age means whatever you are talking about be it a person, a place, a product, experience, it’s stood the test time, it’s resilient, flexible, and where relevant incredibly knowledgeable.

2021 was an exciting time for IDR Law, we expanded our team of contentious probate solicitors nationwide, spanning Harrogate, Manchester and Bristol which meant we went from having 80 years of combined contentious probate experience to 100!

Having a whole century worth of knowledge flowing through our team is something we wanted to highlight, and it got us thinking about other things that have reached the ripe old age of 100 in 2021.

Stacker created a list of all the people, places and products that reached 100 in 2021, here are some of the highlights…

From 1921 to 2021

Remember having your BCG? Well quite fittingly as the world was producing vaccines to fight covid, the trial for the vaccine to fight tuberculosis took place following its completion in Paris in 1921. Whilst were discussing developments in medicine, it was in the same year that insulin was discovered.

Crazy to think but it was 100 years ago that Chanel launched signature fragrance Chanel no5, which is still going strong today.

People wise the late Prince Phillip reached 100 in 2021 along with Iris Apfel, New York born businesswoman and fashion designer.

For fans of the Stephen King classic, The Shining, it is also 100 years since the famous ball at the Overlook Hotel! Take a look.

It was in 1921 that the first polygraph machine was invented in California, by police officer John Augustus Larson. More commonly known as a lie detector the machine was used to determine guilt or innocence of a criminal. However, the credibility of it has dwindled over the years, possibly some part due to the sensationalist use of it in daytime TV!

It’s fair to say that most of the things that turned 100 in 2021 have been pretty influential during their reign.
