Congratulations to Kate Wootton on completing her LPC!

Unlike many budding lawyers, Kate had heard of contentious probate long before she decided to study law. Her family had been involved in a will dispute when she was just a teenager and she still remembers the anguish it caused.

‘Unfortunately, my parents were not provided with great advice, which resulted in the case ending up at court. It was a very difficult time for everybody involved. It is so important to me to qualify into this area of law, and to do a good job for my clients to prevent other families from going through what we had to.’

Kate’s family’s case is a reported one. It is still referred to in contentious probate cases.

‘I never planned to be a solicitor and I’m not sure if I’d be so interested in other areas of Law, but Inheritance Dispute Resolution is something that I feel very passionately about. It has such a big impact on people’s day to day lives and it’s so important that there are people like us to be there for them. It’s hard to pick up the phone to a law firm. We know that. But we are there with patience and compassion to listen to people’s cases and help them in any way we can.’

Kate graduated from Leeds Beckett in 2014 with an honours degree in Psychology and was first introduced to Martin Holdsworth, founder and owner of IDR Law, while she was working in a coffee shop below his office.

‘I used to serve him a double cappuccino every day!’

In the Autumn of 2014, Kate started as a receptionist in the law firm where Martin worked and, realising her potential, it wasn’t long before he offered her a role as a Paralegal.

Kate now has over 5 years’ experience as a Paralegal in contentious probate and, supported by IDR Law, has completed her GDL and LPC along the way. She’s looking forward to starting her training contract at IDR Law in September and is just 18 months away from becoming a qualified solicitor.

‘I feel very lucky to work with such a great team and have the opportunity afforded to me. I’m really excited to be training with such an amazing firm.’
