Coming from a family of medical professionals (but not having the stomach for practicing medicine), it was important to Eleanor to be of service to communities and to work to genuinely help people in difficult situations.
She studied LLB Law at the University of Sheffield where she stayed to complete the Legal Practice Course in 2006. Whilst at University, Eleanor worked in administration and medico-legal in the NHS.
Eleanor notes some sage advice that she was given by a tutor at University, namely that the right specialism was mainly about luck and timing but also about making sure that you did work that you enjoyed or cared about strongly. Eleanor began her Training Contract in 2007 and obtained a significant amount of experience in heavyweight litigation allowed her to specialise in her chosen area of contentious probate at an early stage, having built up a strong foundation of court experience. She feels lucky that she has always been given opportunities to prove herself and to undertake the work that she enjoyed doing.
Eleanor joined IDR in October 2020 and is proud to work for one of the only firms in the country that offers truly flexible working. ‘IDR is singular in its vision and its application of that vision through the people employed by the firm. You are trusted to work flexibly without worrying about diminishing opportunities or a lack of recognition.’
Eleanor runs her own team within IDR alongside taking the lead on Training and Development and supervision of Trainee Solicitors. Eleanor takes pride in mentoring and supporting junior team members through formal training and their own personal development ‘the Career Paths available to staff at IDR are transparent and without pressure or obligation. It is exciting to see the next generation of lawyers grasp their future with both hands and take ownership of their progression’.
Eleanor is based in Derbyshire and in her spare time, enjoys all that the beautiful Peak District has to offer on days out with her family.
