IDR Law Zooming ahead

IDR Law are adapting to the COVID-19 world – just one day after UK lockdown we managed to get a case resolved through online mediation!

Mediations give people the chance to resolve all aspects of a dispute without going to court; thus, saving time, money and helping to prevent acrimony.

Mediations normally involve all interested parties attending a venue and a mediator moving between the separate rooms exercising shuttle diplomacy. For example, client A and their solicitor in one room, client B plus their solicitor in another and the mediator, based in room C, going between the parties’ rooms.

With a traditional mediation meeting not possible, we carried out the mediation online using Zoom video conferencing software. The alternative to this would have been a lengthy wait – none of us know how long – and increased client stress, which we obviously all want to avoid.

During the mediation we remained isolated away from the other parties. The mediator, Paul Beevers, facilitated the mediation brilliantly using Zoom to set up virtual rooms for the parties and their respective solicitors. The mediator went between the rooms, virtually, hosting solicitors’ meetings in a separate online room, when required.

This mediation, led by Richard Thomas on our side, was wholly successful in that a legal settlement was achieved and signed off on the day, allowing all parties to leave the mediation with a line drawn under the matter.

We have more online mediations booked in over the coming weeks. The landscape has changed for all of us due to COVID-19, but we are rapidly adapting, enabling us to continue business as usual: we’re changing the way we work, but the work remains the same.

Some of these enforced changes have allowed IDR Law to achieve success for clients even more quickly, and may become integral to our way of working, once COVID-19 has been beaten.

We’re an approachable, boutique, firm and the only one in the country dealing solely with inheritance dispute resolution. Whether you’re a law firm, or an individual who feels they would benefit from our expertise, get in touch here, email us at [email protected] or call on 01423 637050.
